Who is Grace Community Church?

Grace Community Church is a community that might be small but we are known for our big love for people and our Lord and Savior. We welcome people with open arms and desire for them to come to new life in Christ. As a church we are committed to Christ-centered teaching and are mission-minded both at home and abroad. We are a church that evangelizes the lost and edifies the saved.

For it is by grace you are saved, through Faith and this not from ourselves, it is The gift of God…”

Our History
We have a great and powerful name, “GRACE.” Spiritually speaking, the idea of Grace Community Church actually started when “God” called Ralph Hammond into the ministry in the mid-1960s. Brother Ralph saw a need to further his education and take Bible classes that would prepare him for ministry. In the late 1960’s (about 1969), under the spiritual guidance of Brother and Sister Alexander, Good Shepherd Baptist Church of Cleveland; and other supporting persons (John Frierson, Bernice Robinson and T. Douglas Grayson) the vision to start a church in Lorain, Ohio, was birthed. Grace was non-denominational in the beginning but later affiliated with Converge. The majority of the congregation is working-class, African Americans. The church will celebrate its 52nd anniversary in 2020.
